SPREAD SELECTION OF THE WEEK
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers travel to Atlanta today to take on the Falcons. The last time these two teams hooked up in Atlanta, and in October, the Falcons came away with a 31 - 23 victory (2013). In addition, the Falcons successfully defended their home turf last season 34 - 20. Tampa Bay sailed into Atlanta in 2015 & 2016 and pillaged 23 - 20 and 31 - 24 wins, respectively.
The Falcons are a disappointing 1 - 4 this season, and the odds of them picking themselves up off the turf and contending for a post season berth are next to impossible. In fact, what it boils down to is whether or not this team can remain a team that will continue to work with the same intensity as if it were 4 - 1. This remains to be seen. Luckily, this being a home game, and versus a Buc team that will be worse with Jameis Winston than it was with Ryan Fitzpatrick, this is a huge opportunity for Matt Ryan and the Falcons to at least regain some optimism as it pertains to their outlook for the remainder of the season. Tampa Bay brings a 2 - 2 record to the Falcons nest, and a QB that has had off field issues, and a penchant for not realizing his potential on the field. This does not bode well for the pirates in this match up.
The Bucs have allowed a whopping 139 points over the first 4 games of the season. That indicates to me that in an era where the offense has all the benefits, that they are unable to even slow down anyone. Matt Ryan has the offensive weapons to carve up this team like a cooked turkey, and more than likely will. That being stated, the Falcons have allowed an even more ridiculous145 points over the same number of games. In a nutshell, both of these teams do not have the ability to stop any offense, whether they be professional football teams or not.
The main difference in this game is that the Falcons are at home (won 31 - 24, lost 43 - 37, lost 37 - 36) where they have been competitive and sufficiently scoring, while the Bucs scored 48 in New Orleans (with Fitzpatrick), but only 10 in Chicago with Fitz starting and Jameis relieving him during the game with very little success.
The Falcons will score, and score big. The Bucs will not be able to effectively score enough points to keep up with the Falcons... and they will have much difficulty preventing the birds from scoring. Not good for the visiting Bucs.
PREDICTION: Take the Atlanta Falcons -3.5
FINAL SCORE PREDICTION: 44 - 17
Good luck everyone!
